• The icon of the assigned application to a file's name for sure doesn't help the same than to know the extension of it.
• So, in order to have the files' extensions visible, do the following:

- In any folder that contains files > Click on the tools menu and select folder options.
- Click on the View tab.
- Locate where it lists: Hide extensions of known file types > uncheck it.
- Click OK.
